We're All Book Lovers, But
We Like Movies At Our House Too

We like movies at our house. Some we've bought, some we've borrowed; most are rented and returned. And it was always that "return" step that was the hardest.

I'm sure I'm part of a large crowd who has trouble getting the things back to the outlet store before they're overdue. And I don't think it's an accident that NONE of the movies I picked up on Saturday when I had to time to be in the store, can wait until next Saturday when I have time to go back.

Some have to be back by Monday, and the rest have to be back by Thursday. For me that means three trips to the store, and more than once it was to return a movie we hadn't even had time to watch.

The alternative was that we sometimes paid more in late fees than the original movie rental.

This month we're joining NetFlix. I'll pick out my movie rental at 4:00 a.m. when I have time for things like that. We'll watch it when we want to, and return it when we want to ( when it's convenient for me to drop it in the mail).

No late fees! I do believe that just about covers the membership fee by itself. Hooray!

But There Are Some Titles You Really Want To Own

Some movies need to be in your home library just because you want them. We have several like that.

There are a few favorites that go in the DVD Player within minutes after the grandchildren arrive -- I swear two of the grandkids have watched Chitty Chitty Bang Bang so many times they can quote you the next line in the script before Dick Van Dyke opens his mouth. It was their Mother's favorite, too, when she was little.

We also have an unopened copy of "Finding Nemo" because we received two as gifts for Christmas the year it came out. One gets played; the other is packed in "Grandma's Time Capsule" trunk anticipating it will someday become a collectible.

There are several of the old cowboy movies in the home library and much as it surprises me when one of the younger set chooses to watch one, it never surprises anyone that the older folk in the house won't let them be put up for sale. Like favorite old books, some of the remastered DVD movies don't even have to be watched to be enjoyed; just pull one out and look at the cover, and the best parts of it come to memory as though it was watched last night.

What's in your library? Tell us about your favorites and how they came to be treasured. Send an email to: LLoni@LLPublish.com

And if there are titles you haven't been able to find, let us know and we'll help you search.
